Over the years I have visited a few times with the
people of the Global Community Communications
Alliance. They are based at an idyllic property known
as Avalon Gardens Organic Farm and Ranch in
Tumacacori, Arizona. The residents are happy,
healthy, glowing, and youthful at all ages. Many of them
have been a part of this intentional community for up to
ten or fifteen years and look like it has been a very
healthy, enjoyable experience.
The people of the Global Community Communications
Alliance share more than a desire for sustainable living:
they also share a set of spiritual beliefs. They believe
they are a type of being called "Starseed", a group of
souls ultimately from someplace beyond the Earth.
They believe it is time for them to reunite now, on Earth
in this lifetime, so they can help the world, or if the
world cannot be improved upon and saved from
destruction, they will be together when the time comes
to escape it via space vessel. Most of their ideas
originate from a book called the Urantia Book, with
other ideas coming from the group's founder, Gabriel,
who has written additions to the book. This is my
outsider's view in the simple form in which I understand
them. I feel it is important for me to emphasize this so
that the curious will find this webpage to be reliable.
If one believed oneself to be Starseed, then one might
look at these people with special interest because they
might provide an ideal community to join. At the same
time, people who live at Avalon Gardens are perfectly
capable of and permitted to think for themselves, even
when it concerns their spiritual beliefs. The group also
highly values sustainable community living and
practices "green" principles on its property. Examples
of projects they have implemented include water
harvesting, solar energy, and using recycled materials
such as "papercrete" to construct buildings. The
featured practice on the property is organic gardening
and farming. The animals they raise for food are about
as loved as food can possibly be loved: kissed, petted,
loved, and respected from birth to death. The
community asks that visitors leave drugs and alcohol
behind and expects residents to live clean and sober
lives.
The Alliance asks that you overlook the fact that they
follow a belief structure very different from yours and
they have no problem doing the same. In my
experience, they understand that my mind is not set up
to jive with their belief structure, nor is it likely to ever
be. They still are willing to work with me and respect
me as a person, as I do them. When asked for details
about their beliefs, they will be straightforward with the
curious. This includes discussion of such unusual
practices as situations in which it might be acceptable
for a person to have more than one romantic partner,
for example. The group appreciates the value of
reaching out to the general public without evangelizing
and maintains a regular schedule of public events, such
as concerts, garden tours, peace gatherings and
holiday festivals. They also provide a number of
services to the public, such as an art gallery, alternative
medicine, and tours of the Tubac, Tumacacori, and
Sedona areas.
All in all, the members of the Global Community
Communications Alliance are good-hearted and good
to everyone. They lead healthy, sustainable lives and
enjoy a rewarding sense of community, and these are
things that many more people in the world could benefit
from.
